We are thrilled to announce that Lightyear has been selected as 1 of only 31 companies nationwide to participate in Tech Nation’s Fintech 3.0 program.

What is Tech Nation Fintech 3.0?

Tech Nation fuels the growth of game-changing founders, leaders and scaling companies to positively transform societies and economies. Tech Nation was founded as the UK Government's network for ambitious tech entrepreneurs, supported by the department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. Each year Tech Nation accepts a small number of high growth tech companies onto their programs.

With only 31 companies selected for Fintech 3.0, Lightyear is proud to be 1 of the leading Fintech companies from Northern Ireland.

Out of a total of 143 applicants, 3 companies from Northern Ireland have successfully joined this cohort of the program.

Chris Gregg Co-founder and CEO at Lightyear commented, "Lightyear are proud to have been selected as part of the prestigious TechNation Fintech 3.0 program. Within 2 short years, we are already processing billions of pounds of payables invoices for businesses of all sizes around the world and saving hundreds of thousands of hours on manual data entry and approvals.

"It is even more pleasing to see 2 other local Northern Ireland companies join us, Automated Intelligence and Datactics. The Northern Ireland fintech ecosystem is booming and this is further validation of the potential for Northern Ireland to lead the world in innovative financial technology and create a new highly skilled industry segment founded upon high quality Northern Irish native companies."

This is strong validation for the Northern Ireland tech sector following the announcement 2 weeks ago from Tech Nation that Belfast is becoming an increasingly attractive spot for skilled workers and tech businesses. According to Tech Nation data released on Tuesday 8th September, Belfast is the second-best value place in the UK for tech workers to live. Belfast is one of nine cities in the UK, outside of London, to have more than one-fifth of the workforce employed in the technology sector.

Liam Gray, Fintech Lead at Tech Nation said “We are delighted to welcome Lightyear onto the Tech Nation Fintech program. This year we are fortunate enough to have three leading fintechs from Northern Ireland, solving a variety of salient industry problems and demonstrating the growing strength of the ecosystem."

Chris Gregg, co-founder and CEO of Lightyear, commented further, “Lightyear is currently entering a very exciting growth phase, and gaining access to the insight and expertise available on offer through the Fintech 3.0 program will have a huge impact on the future of Lightyear.

"This is fantastic recognition of the opportunity for Lightyear as the only accounting Fintech in this cohort, to automate the Accounts Payables for businesses of all sizes across the global economy"
