We are upgrading our user-authentication mechanism - the part of our software that verifies your email address and password, and prevents unauthorised access to your account. As part of this process, we are also increasing the password requirement to a minimum of 10 characters.
Data security is our number one priority at Lightyear. As cyber attacks continue to evolve, it is important that we take appropriate steps to ensure Lightyear has the most up to date and best in class security mechanisms in place.
That's why we are introducing a new security platform developed by a global industry leader. This will not only increase Lightyear's security, but it will also allow us to introduce the option for Lightyear Admin's to enable multi-factor authentication (also know as MFA or 2FA) in the future, adding even more security to your highly sensitive data.
It is important to note, Lightyear has not experienced any security breaches. These scheduled security improvements are part of our ever-evolving program of platform improvements.
Who is affected?
At some point after Thursday 13th February, you will be prompted to change your password when you login. This process is simply you setting a new password on the new password management system. The process will only take a few seconds.
What do I need to do?
Nothing for now. But, when you login to Lightyear after the changes are implemented, you will automatically be prompted to take the following steps:
- Log into Lightyear with your current email address and password.
- On a new Reset your Password screen, you will then be prompted to enter your new password. Note, you can still re-use your current password, so long as it is 10 or more characters.
- You will then be prompted to enter a One Time Passcode (OTP) which will have just been emailed to the email address that you use to log into Lightyear. If you cannot see it in your email inbox, please check you Spam or Junk folders.
- Once the OTP has been entered you will be brought into the Lightyear account, as normal.
That's it! It's a one-time only process, after which you will be able to access Lightyear as normal.
